MHSAA Reschedules Track and Field Championships for Classes 2A and 4A Amid Weather Concerns

Weather Forces MHSAA to Reschedule Key Championship Dates

The Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) announced on April 29 that its boys and girls track and field championships for Classes 2A and 4A have been pushed back from May 1 to May 5, citing adverse weather forecasts expected to disrupt travel and field conditions.

All events are hosted at the Woody Barnett Track and Field Complex at Pearl High School. The MHSAA cited anticipated rainfall as the primary reason for the schedule adjustment, with organisers concerned about both athlete safety and the integrity of competition surfaces.

Revised Championship Schedule

The rescheduling affects only Classes 2A and 4A. All other classification dates remain unchanged, with Classes 5A, 6A, and 7A competing on May 2, and Classes 1A and 3A on May 4.

The full updated schedule is as follows:

What This Means for Competitors

Athletes, coaches, and families affiliated with Class 2A and 4A programmes should note the four-day shift in their competition timeline. No changes have been announced regarding event formats or qualifying criteria.

The MHSAA has not indicated any further contingency plans should weather conditions deteriorate beyond the revised dates.
