Singapore’s ‘When You’re Ready’ Campaign: Why Brand Singapore Can No Longer Afford to Stay Silent

As geopolitical fragmentation reshapes the global competition for capital, talent and tourism, Singapore’s Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry has launched a multi-year international branding campaign titled ‘When You’re Ready’ — and the urgency behind it, according to those leading the effort, is anything but ceremonial.
What distinguishes the ‘When You’re Ready’ campaign from routine destination marketing is the institutional self-awareness that animates it. Both Dr Beh and Ms Tan acknowledge that Singapore’s brand equity is real but not self-sustaining — that it requires active stewardship, particularly as multipolar tensions create both risk and opportunity for a small, open economy whose leverage has always depended on being indispensable to multiple parties simultaneously. The campaign is, in that sense, less a promotional exercise than a strategic act of positioning in a world where the rules of economic geography are being rewritten in real time.
